In 1956, the master of pottery, Franz Kukowetz, made a groundbreaking discovery! After studying it for 16 years and numerous attempts,he successfully unravelled the secret of Terra-Nigra. This sensation made headlines around the world, including the USA (see also the newspaper article dating from the year 1964!). Franz Kukowetz passed on his knowledge and skills to his daughter Vera Wagner and his son-in-law Heribert Wagner. Meanwhile, Mr. Kukowetz’s grandson, Hannes Wagner, successfully runs the only original one of its kind Terra-Nigra production in the world. It is located in Flansdorf, Lower Austria.
For many years, Hannes Wagner managed IT-corporations with great success. Eventually, he decided to turn his love for this exceptional ceramic into his life's purpose. Ever since, his impressive artwork has been wonderful evidence of his passion for Terra-Nigra.
Hannes Wagner: “There is nothing better than spending my time at the manufactory to create and give every product its distinctive uniqueness. One can literally feel the ancient origin of the finished products. Their charisma is exceptional and the austere beauty of their simple designs is the embodiment of thousands of years of ancient culture!”
